DICK GRAEFF OF ARCANUM

Dick graduated from Dover High School in 1946 and Wittenberg University in 1953. Aside from his basketball success Dick wore many hats. He coached a State Championship team in track and had outstanding cross country teams. He coached his daughter, Lisa in track who was the state champion in the 100, 220, and 440 events and held the state record in the 440. He served as Mayor of Arcanum and is presently a Darke County Commissioner. While teaching social studies at Arcanum High School, he was also the Assistant Principal.

In Basketball his teams won 276 games while losing 116 for 70.5%. Seven times Dick's teams were Darke County League Champs in the following years: 1962, 1965, 1968, 1970, 1976 and 1977. Arcanum won the Darke County post season tournament in 1962 and were Regional Champs in 1967, 1969 and 1976. In 1969 they were State Champs, runner-up in the State Finals in 1967 and in 1976 were in the quarter finals. Dick's team went undefeated during the regular season in 1976. His schedule always consisted of many teams in a higher division and also the top rated teams in their own division. He spoke at many clinics during his career and wrote numerous articles for basketball publications. He was Coach of the Year in 1969. Arcanum under his direction had 8 seasons of 5 or fewer losses; undefeated in 1976; two losses in 1962 and 1969; three losses in 1967; four losses in 1961, 1968 and 1975; five losses in 1972. Dick's teams always worked hard as he set an excellent example for his players, the school and the community.

His wife is Marilyn and they have three daughters, Gretchen, Lisa and Molly.
