Mark coached at Danville, Fredricktown and Wooster High School, the last 25 of those years at Wooster. He had winning records at all three schools. His teams won 443 games for a winning percent of 62.7. Mark graduated from Steubenville High School in 1965. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kent State University in 1968 and his Master's Degree in Education from Xavier in 1975.

He has been a longtime member of the OHSBCA. Coach Albert's teams were: Mid Buckeye Champions for three years, Cardinal Conference Champs three years, Federal League Champs four years, and the Ohio Cardinal Conference Champs one year. Thirteen times they were sectional tournament champs. They won the District in 2003 while coaching at Wooster.

Mark coached in the North-South All-Star game in 1988. He was honored as League Coach of the Year 11 times. From 1973-77, he also served as head baseball coach.

Coach Alberts had the privilege of coaching his daughter, Marcie, on an AAU team that won the National Championship in Clovis, New Mexico in 1992. The same year he coached his son, Mason, on a YBOA basketball team that won a National Championship in Orlando, Florida.

Mark and his wife, Helen, have two sons, Mark, Jr. 36, Mason, 29, and a daughter Marcie, 31. They have four grandchildren: Jacelyn, 9, Jared, 6, Brett, 2 and Jordyn 4. Mark, Jr. is the head boy's basketball coach at Northwestern High School. Marcie is the head girl's basketball coach at Orrville High School and Mason is the head basketball coach at Wayne College. Coach Alberts and his wife belong to the St. Mary's Church.

Coach Alberts always tried to impress upon his players that while some teams they played might be more talented, none would play harder. They ended each pre-game talk with the phrase, "Play Hard - Play Smart - Play Together." They tried to live by that adage during their practices and games. Their philosophy was to never let opposing players and coaches outwork them, and to always play with intelligence and unselfishness.
