The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association is proud to announce that Bob Miller of Thomas Worthington High School is the recipient of the 2004 Paul Walker Award. The Paul Walker award is presented annually by the OHSBCA to an active coaching member of the association who has made significant contributions to high school basketball. The award is named in honor of the late Paul Walker, the longtime coach of Middletown High School. He has the most wins as boy’s basketball coach in Ohio High School Basketball history with 695.

Bob Miller graduated from Grandview Heights High School and The Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in education. He began his teaching and coaching career in 1965 at Groveport Madison High School. He was an assistant JV football coach, freshman basketball coach and varsity golf coach. Bob was selected head varsity basketball coach at Groveport in 1973 and compiled a record of 150-54 in ten years. He and his family then moved to Worthington where he became the varsity basketball coach at Worthington High School in 1983 and has been in that capacity for the past 21 years.

In 39 years of coaching Bob has been a head football coach, head basketball coach and head golf coach. He has been coaching varsity basketball for thirty one years with an overall record of 444-228. Included in this record are eleven Ohio Capital Conference Championships and three District Championships. He has been selected OCC Coach of the Year ten times, Central District Coach of the Year four times and was the Associated Press and OHSBCA Division I State Coach of the Year in 2003. He also received the OHSAA Ethics and Integrity award in 1997-1998.

Bob has always been very active in the OHSBCA. He was one of the original executive board members and founders of district 10 and served as district 10 president in 1978-1980. He has been an active executive board member of district 10 from 1975 to the present, and has served as district 10 director since 1993. Bob has coached in the North-South All-Star classic, The Wendy’s Classic, the Ohio-Kentucky All-Star game, and the district 10 All-Star game three times.

Bob and his wife Judy, a middle school social studies teacher in Worthington, have been married 32 years. They have two children, Scott and his wife Carey are both pharmacists and live in Louisville and Lori, who is in her last semester of law school at the University of Dayton and is very active in equestrian activities.
